Bits and bobs, baubles and bows,
In every far corner the colour glows.
Delicate trinkets hang from a tree
Or suspend from silky ribbons in nook or cranny.
Go into the hall, gaze up the stairs,
Covered in greenery, nothing compares!
Decking the house in an honoured tradition,
Can you decide where our treasures to exactly position?
Down from the loft come trimmings for Christmas,
They add to the atmosphere to make it mysterious.
Mystery and magic happily combine
With history and reality making fine the time.
Crystal and candles give a soft glow,
Ornaments too, from years long ago.
But the most appropriate decoration of all
Is the nativity scene set up in the hall,
A timely loving welcome for all who enter.
The Christ Child comes in the depths of winter.
He comes to a cold, broken world full of hardship.
Jesus, God’s Son comes to bless us, a cause for worship.
For the Child who is born on Christmas Day,
The Baby Mary wraps tenderly lying on hay,
Is none other than God’s fulfilled, timely promise,
He comes to offer true blessings of happiness.
Father God, we delight in the mystery surrounding the Lord Jesus’ birth, helping us to sense awe. We enjoy decorating our homes to honour the season. But way, way beyond this and all else, we are enthralled by this
Baby born to Mary, come to our world that we may worship. How wonderful it is to know the truth that we are loved by You! Amen.
